Job opportunity – welfare and liaison officer for Homes for Ukraine programme

We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate problem solvers to join the team of officers who are supporting Ukrainian guests under the Homes for Ukraine programme.

South Cambridgeshire is the district area with the highest number of visas granted in the country. This means the number of hosts and guests we need to support is higher than elsewhere.

When we asked local councillors and community groups for their support to help us find people who were suitable to help us with welfare visits a few months back we had a great response, but as the programme has developed we would like to ask for your help again.

We are keen to hear from guests who could use their recent experience in a paid role to support other people settling into life in South Cambridgeshire. Alternatively, perhaps you or someone you know is retired, already volunteering, or hosting guests and interested in one of the positions.

We ideally need people to commit to working a minimum of 3 days a week, up to full time, for one year. However, we recognise people may be limited in the number of hours they can work each day due to other commitments, including childcare and other caring responsibilities, and are keen to hear from anyone with relevant and transferable skills to these roles. You do not need to have worked in Local Government before.

What are we looking for?

  • Good communicator
  • Previous experience of working in a customer facing role
  • Good listener and ability to empathise and give advice to  Ukrainian guests who may be suffering from trauma
  • Good level of written and spoken English
  • Ability to use Council translating services to support conversations with guests where necessary
  • Good attention to detail to ensure issues raised by guests are logged and dealt with efficiently to ensure they access to appropriate support and accommodation
  • Housing or safeguarding experience would be advantageous but not essential
  • Confidence to ask guests or hosts further questions to uncover underlying issues
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and able to put people with a variety of backgrounds at ease
  • Confidence working with basic Microsoft computer programmes such as Word, Excel and Outlook as spreadsheets are used for recording and collating information

Some roles will require the ability to travel using own car to travel all over the district, but others can be done from home using ICT equipment provided by the Council.

We are looking for people who can start quickly to support the team.

The hourly rate for the role is £15.93 to £18.53
